Description

Starting at Marlene-Dietrich-Platz near Potsdamer Platz, on this tour we visit places, buildings, and even museums, which in one way or another, are linked to the most famous German of all time. Our second stop is Berlin's Boulevard of the Stars, where Dietrich's star shines more luminous and brighter than all the others! Next comes the Marlene Dietrich Collection at Berlin's Film-Museum. The collection was bought by the City of Berlin after her demise in 1992 and which was eventually included in the Film-Museum. Photos, letters, trinkets, jewellery, and especially: her gowns!, make this a unique place to visit. After about an hour, we'll board the train to take a look at Dietrich's birth place in what was once a working-class neighbourhood of Berlin. Next, we'll look at a fabulous Art-Deco building which once was home to a concert hall, and it was precisely here, that Marlene gave a concert in 1960, on one of her few visits to Berlin after she'd left the city of her birth in 1930, after the premiere of 'The Blue Angel', the film that catapulted her to international fame. The last stop on our mission is the Stubenrauch Cemetery, where Dietrich was laid to rest in May 1992, and where I was one of the thousands who stood in line to bid their farewell to the lady which to many, me included, represented the other, the better, Germany.
