Rebuilt in 2011, the new 31 meter long van Loon ship is a cozy, warm and beautiful place to eat whilst on the water. With a lounge, bar, restaurant, upper outdoor deck, lots of oak wood panelling, windows to see the water and two open fire places: to dine on this old remodelled cargo ship is a Berlin experience.
The van Loon offers German cuisine with an international seafood influence, however meat eaters and vegetarians will also find something on offer. Fresh and seasonal fish is always on the daily changing menu and you can enjoy breakfast by the water too, available every day from 9am with a buffet breakfast available on Sundays and public holidays from 10am. The buffet is a bit more expensive than your average Berlin buffet, but at €17.50 you not only also get extras like eggs and waffles but you're on a boat!
This restaurant also runs culinary Berlin tours where you can eat the amazing ship cuisine whilst taking a tour of the city's waterways. Tours including a warm and cold buffet start from around €33.50 and run for about 3 hours. Check the website for details.
