Brothers Markus and Daniel Freitag started out as graphic designers and wanted something durable and waterproof to carry their designs in, thus began the Freitag label. They started with one original messenger bag made from an old truck tarpaulin, a seat belt and bike tyre tubing and this has grown into an empire with over 450 stockists around the world.
Basically these bags are made from old stuff. They call it 'recontextualizing'. Retired, old truck tarps are removed from said truck, the dead bits, straps, buckles, belts and eyelets are stripped, it's washed thoroughly before sent to the designers for laying and cutting. Finally it's sewn into a very cool shoulder bag, pouch, purse, backpack, lap top protector, you name it - for both men and women. This process and the fact that the tarpaulins come as they are, mean that no two bags are alike. Perfect for the individual and original bag lover.
