Berlin Wall
Located not far from busy Potsdamer Platz, the Guard Tower on Erna-Berger-Straße is somewhat of a hidden gem. Where, 25 years ago, the tower was surrounded by empty space, now it sits next to a newly built block of flats. This tower used to be manned by 2 guards armed with machine guns as well as flood lights. Now it is manned by friendly volunteers who love to share the story of this historic relic of the Berlin Wall as well as the history of the area and the Berlin Wall in general. For a small donation of €3.50 you can climb the narrow ladder to the observation area up top. The donation goes towards restoration efforts and ensuring that the tower is protected for future generations.
Due to the fact that it is run by volunteers it has somewhat sporadic and unusual opening hours and there is no guarentee that it will be open during the times advertised. That said, it is usually open from around 11am till 2pm on weekdays and 2pm till 6pm on weekends except when raining)
