Born from the 1987 Berlin Horticultural Show, the reunification of Germany saw this park be redeveloped as a themed gardens with large lawns, children's playgrounds, new trees and plants. In 2002 it was voted as one of Germany's ten most beautiful gardens.
After a four year construction period, the 'Gardens of the World' opened in 2000 with the Chinese garden, titled 'Garden of the Reclaimed Moon', and over the next decade gardens from Japan, Bali, the Orient, Korea, Italy, and the Christian world have been added.
The 90 hectare area also includes art, cafes, sports facilities, concert venues and animal and railway museums.
