The Konzerthaus, or Concert Hall, located on Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin Mitte is widely regarded as one of the best concert venues in the world. Originally a playhouse, the Konzerthaus, designed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel, was all but destroyed during World War Two. Repairs began in 1977 and in 1984 it reopened. The exterior is regarded as a faithful reconstruction of Schinkel's original building. The interior however, was remodelled to suit its new purpose as a concert hall and was decorated in a neoclassical style.
