Parks and Gardens Along the River Spree
Berlin
Parks and Gardens
On the north-west side of the city, the Spree snakes through Schloßpark Charlottenburg, home to a majestic 16th century castle and beautiful landscaped gardens. You'll find pavillions, playgrounds and delightful ponds - take a few hours to stroll through the grounds and combine it with a castle visit if you can.
Moving east, the Spree finds itself in Tiergarten, Berlin's enormous park spanning 5.17 square kilometres. It's the south-west side of these enormous parklands that greets the Spree, known as Großer Tiergarten.
In the heart of Mitte, you can relax on the grass and watch life on the Spree from Monbijou Park, James-Simon-Park, or around Museum Island and Lustgarten. Here, you'll see colourful characters relaxing around Hackescher Markt, and you can watch the tourists sail by on tour boats.
Further East, Treptower Park and Plänterwald follow the Spree for kilometres, and are mighty popular destinations for an energetic stroll or bike ride along the river.
