Volkspark Friedrichshain
Berlin
Parks and Gardens
Located on the border of Friedrichshain and Prenzlauer Berg, Volkspark Friedrichshain is a popular location with locals and tourists alike. On warm days (and nights) people flock to the open green spaces for a spot of sunbaking (not always clothed), or a picnic (usually clothed). There are a number of kiosks in the area where you can grab some drinks or snacks to drink in the park, or there are also a couple of restaurants including a beer garden.
This park is a great place for kids, with a number of playgrounds, a great stream for kids to paddle in, as well as a fountain with sculptures of various fairytales.
One of the most notable features of the park are the two hills which were created after WW2 bunkers on the site were collapsed and covered with over 2 million cubic meters of rubble from the surrounding buildings destroyed during the war.
