Tempelhof Airport Tours
Berlin
Art and Architecture
Tempelhof Airport has a rich and fascinating history and is well worth a visit if you are in Berlin. The site has been part of aviation history since the end of the 19th Century. The current airport terminal is one of the Nazi's largest buildings in Berlin and is an important example of Nazi architecture. During the Blockaid of Berlin and the Berlin Airlift, Tempelhof became a symbol of freedom, and of the power struggle between the West and the Soviets.
The former airfields are open to the public daily from sunrise to sunset but if you want to get a peek inside the buildings you will need to join a guided tour.
On this unique tour, offered every Saturday at 3pm and Sunday 2pm, you will visit the check-in facilities, the huge system of tunnels and air-raid bunkers, the sports facilities of the American Air-Force and many other sites in this icon of aviation history.
